CHI, The Spa
Shangri-La’s signature spa draws inspiration from East and West
We like to think of CHI, The Spa as a retreat located right within the city. As the Shangri-La’s signature spa, CHI offers treatments that embody the award-winning hotel brand’s sense of luxury, and draws inspiration from the origins of the Shangri-La legend. In literature, Shangri-La is known as a place of enchantment and wellness—and as a personal sanctuary.
CHI takes that ‘sanctuary’ designation seriously: each suite in the sumptuous space is designed as a spa within a spa, equipped with a private bath, shower and fireplace. The spa takes its name from another source of inspiration. “Ch’i” is described by traditional Chinese philosophy as a universal life force that governs well-being. So it’s no surprise that the luxe treatment menu takes plenty of cues from the East. The Asian-inspired CHI Signature massages—offered at Shangri-La hotels worldwide—utilize time-honoured traditions: each treatment begins with a foot soak, tea service and eucalyptus steam.
Alternatively, the Sense of Place menu brings a hit of West Coast well-being to the downtown spa, utilizing the best BC products and coastal treatments—think wild seaweed facials and hot and cool stone therapy. And beginning this April, CHI will feature a whole new selection of Sense of Adventure treatments, which showcase treatments from sister spas around the world, from Chinese wushu massage to a tension-relieving ayurveduc podikizhi rub out of India. It’s a world of options, from East to West, located just minutes from home.
