Beer City, USA, is an hour from Vancouver

The fourth-annual Bellingham Beer Week celebrates a hopped-up border city from Sept. 11 – 21

This past year has been unprecedented for craft brewing in the city most Vancouverites associate with Trader Joe’s and great hiking. Bellingham has more breweries per capita than almost anywhere else on the planet. With six breweries now open—two in the past 12 months alone—and three more about to, this year’s Beer Week is all about understanding and savouring the boom times.

Held annually in Bellingham since 2012, Bellingham Beer Week is held to celebrate and promote craft beer in Bellingham and beyond and recognize local craft beer producers, retailers and consumers who positively impact the community. It has always been a collaborative effort run by passionate members of the local beer community, demonstrated by the collaboration beer brewed annually in honour of the event. This year, local brewers gathered Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham to brew the 2015 version: the NW Local Lager, crafted using malted barley from Skagit Valley Malt (Alba and Copeland) and hops from Yakima (Cascade, Chinook, Amarillo, and Mount Hood). Here’s what’s on tap from Sept. 11 to Sept. 19. Check out for more.
