Railtown BBQ Fest Fires Up This Weekend

Food and drink (and plenty of it) all summer long.

Food and drink (and plenty of it) all summer long.

Railtown Cafe is well known for its mastery in the art of Southern-style barbecue—the popular eatery, named for its fast-evolving neighbourhood, snapped up first-place ribbons at last summer’s Gastown BBQ and Chili Festival in the categories of Brisket, Chili, Pig Roast, and Side Dish.Tomorrow (June 6), the Railtown once again takes its prowess to the streets when it launches the Tailgate Summer Barbecue Series. From 4 to 10pm, chefs and co-owners Tyler Day and Dan Olson will be presiding over a custom 12-foot smoker/barbecue, serving up a vast menu that includes brisket, applewood-smoked pork shoulder, beer-brined chicken, sausages, and an array of sides. (Vegetarians, you haven’t been forsaken: your plate gets heaped with four different salads, corn on the cob, and jalapeño corn bread.) Complementing the feast is a rotating selection of craft beers (including Postmark, Driftwood, Red Truck, and Strange Fellows), sangria, wines by the glass and bottle, and Lynchburg lemonade.Saturday’s weather is expected to be very much in agreement, but fret not if you can’t make it—the event is being reprised four more times throughout summer: July 4, Aug. 8, and Sept. 12 and 26. Tickets ($16 for carnivores; $10 for veg-outs) may be  purchased online here or onsite, but know that all who choose the former method will also receive a complimentary drink voucher (a value of up to $6).
