In addition to Restaurant of the Year, Best Casual, and Best Italian Casual, Ask for Luigi was named Best New Restaurant of the Year at the 26th annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, held yesterday (Apr. 21) at the Sheraton Wall Centre.Our judges—and the masses—have been emphatic in their praise of the Railtown trattoria. Despite a low profile, strong word of mouth resulted in flocks from near and far for its house-made pastas, accessible wines (served in tumblers rather than stemware), and antipasti such as anchovy-topped eggs and stellar meatballs. “I’ve never had a dish there I wouldn’t order again,” one our judges enthused, echoing many of his colleagues.Given the size of the room (only 32 seats) and already long lines, diners will have to be patient for the foreseeable future as they wait for a highly coveted table to open up.
