With the amount of local craft beer available in town, it’s increasingly sacrilege for Vancouverites to step up to the bar and order an import. However, our brewer friends slightly south of the border have combined forces to create a lager that may just woo their Canadian counterparts. Chuckanut Brewery was selected to concoct Bellingham Beer Week’s NxNW Lager using Yakima hops and Skagit Valley malts—as Washington State as you can get in a glass.  The citrus- and pine-scented brew will be tapped tonight as part of a Bellingham’s Best tap takeover, starting at 6p.m. at the Alibi Room in Gastown. If lager isn’t your thing, all of Bellingham’s five breweries have sent up the best they have to offer. Signature styles will be on tap from Aslan Brewery, Boundary Bay Brewing, Chuckanut Brewery, Kulshan Brewing, and Wander Brewing. We asked Chad Kuehl of barely a year-old Wander Brewing: Why Vancouver? “This will be the first time we tap the keg. We wanted to let people from Vancouver know that Bellingham Beer Week kicks off on September 11th and we’d love them to be there.”The Alibi Room157 Alexander St., (604) 623-3383Alibi.caBellingham Beer WeekSeptember 11th – 20thBellinghambeerweek.com
