It was epic, it was so good.”
When Danielle Knight won our prize draw to attend Vancouver’s Hawaiian pop-up dinner last May, she never thought she would be on a plane to Maui just a few months later. But when her name was randomly pulled from a glass bowl containing all the dinner attendees’ ballots, she let out a scream and immediately started planning her best September long weekend ever.
Along with her husband Phil, Danielle flew from YVR straight to Kahului Airport, where she collected her rental car (included in the prize package) and headed straight to the Hyatt Regency.
Greeted with a fresh orchid lei for her, and a lei made from local shells for him, the couple were shown to their ocean-view room. “You could hear the waves crashing. We had wine with cheese and crackers on our private balcony every night. It was amazing.”
The all-inclusive prize included tickets to the Maui Food and Wine Festival, which Danielle says opened her eyes to the amazing variety of Hawaiian ingredients on offer: “One of the vendors had these tiny pork belly buns. I don’t even know what they were called, but they were absolutely delicious.”
A Moscow Mule tutorial dinner at the Westin Ka’anapali Shores hotel kicked off the rest of the weekend, followed by snorkelling around the Hyatt’s waters and exploring nearby Whalers Village. “The locals were so friendly. At some points we were the only tourists. People were inviting us to stay their houses.”
The best part of Danielle’s trip? Watching the sunrise over the Haleakalā, Maui’s largest volcano.
The good news is, if you want to experience Danielle’s trip first hand, you still can. Sign up to win tickets to our Hawaiian pop-up dinner at Blue Water Café here, and make sure to #CraveKaanapali for extra entries.
