Raffle for Live Art

Part Bob Ross-esque showcase of live painting (if Bob Ross had tattoos and an undercut), part art party with a twist; You Up? – SNAG Live Art Raffle is monthly art raffle. Some of Vancouver’s finest emerging artists will create pieces live that will then be raffled at the end of the night. The evening includes a mural competition, live drawing, dougnuts and dance tunes by Maxey.
When: 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Where: The American, 928 Main St.
Cost: No cover, raffle tickets go for $5 for 5, or $20 for 40 tickets

Food and beverage lovers rejoice! Top Drop is coming to town with two days of tastings, specialty dinners, industry talks and more. The main event at the Round House Community Centre is a grand tasting with terroir-focused wines, beers and ciders from some of the world’s finest. Add to the experience by visiting different restaurants around Vancouver for their own specialty events.

Grunt Gallery presents the launch of Journey to Kaho’olawe, an artist publication by Hans Winkler and T’uy’t-tanat Cease Wyss. The publication tells the history of the return of Kaho’olawe island to Hawaiians after it had been occupied by the American military, and the presence of the Kanaka in B.C. since the late 1700s. Events include a book launch, mini luau, surf movies, ghost stories and a tour of Kanaka graves by a historian at the Mountainview Cemetery.

Just in time for beach reading season, the Vancouver Public Library is putting on their Friends of the VPL: Spring Used Book Sale. You can expect thousands of books, DVDs, CDs, and LPs on sale all for great prices. Everything is half off on Saturday and all the proceeds go towards the library’s programs.

Enjoy a Bike-In Movie Night

Why phone home when you can bike there? HUB Cycling and the Vancouver Civic Theatres are putting on their first ever Bike-In Movie Night with a screening of sci-fi classic E.T. Bring a blanket to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre’s outdoor plaza, enjoy some snacks and leave your bike with the bike valet. The event comes in preparation for Bike to Work Week, beginning next week on May 29.
