Climb the Stairway to Beautiful Vista Heaven

Tuesday, March 7

Want to climb the Grind but can’t wait for Spring? Harbour Centre Urban Grind challenges participants to climb the 593 steps to their observation deck. Those who succeed will be rewarded with beer, DJs and breath taking views of Vancouver.

When: Every Tuesday in March from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Where: The Harbour Centre, 2000 – 555 West Hastings St.
Cost: $5 entry, including a beer at the top

Celebrate International Women’s Day Through Film

Wednesday, March 8

Breath tells the story of a girl living in Iran that is part playful insight into her imagination and part devastating story of the consequences of the Iran-Iraq war. After the screening, enjoy the opening gala for the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival, which includes musical guests and food by Tayybeh, an organization that supports Syrian women in Vancouver by organizing community pop-up dinners.

When: March 8, 7:30 p.m.

Go See a Master of Butoh Theatre

Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11

Dairakudakan explores the concept of paradise through butoh, a Japanase form of dance theatre, in their other-worldly performance, Paradise. Part of the Vancouver International Dance Festival, this is award winning choreographer Akaji Maro’s 45th anniversary with the butoh theatre company.

When: March 10 and 11, 8:00 p.m.
Where: Vancouver Playhouse, 600 Hamilton St.
Cost: $60 for adults, $50 for seniors/students

Get your fill of Poetry, Prose and…Doughnuts

Saturday, March 11

Head down to Cartems Donuterie to listen to amazing writers read from the recent issues of literary journal Room, while enjoying confectionary delights. Perfect Pairings: Food and Wine, Prose and Poetry is part of the Growing Room: A Feminist Literary Festival that celebrates Canadian artists and writers with readings, panels and workshops. Sweet!

When: March 11, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Cartems Donuterie, 2190 Main St.
Cost: $5 to $10 suggested donation, includes copy of Room magazine

Experience World Class Rugby (and World Class Rugby Fans)

Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12

HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series is an international tournament that takes place from Dubai to London, with teams of seven players aiming to win based on points from all 10 events. Get ready for fast-paced games and some serious people watching as fans from all over the world take their costumes to the next level.
