Push your Artistic Boundaries

January 16 to February 4

The Push International Performing Arts Festival is back, bringing with it performances in dance, music, theatre and all the spaces in-between that always prove to be some of the most interesting and innovative shows of the year. Of note is Reassembled, Slightly Askew by Shannon Yee, where a small group of audience members stretch out on hospital beds for an immersive show about brain injuries and empathy.

Watch True Love Unfold

Friday, January 19

Find out who gets the rose at The Bachelor: An Improvised Miniseries. Presented by local jokers Grad School Improv, watch as Dean, a lowly sales executive, tries to meet his true love match in this improvised series of three ”episodes.” Bonus: the unforgettable Aaron Reed will feature as a stand-up guest.

Dine Out at the Aquarium

January 19 to February 4

Complete the life cycle as you gaze at colourful fish then enjoy their complex flavours and nutritious fatty acids at the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise Pop-Up Cafe. Renowned chef Ned Bell’s three course menu features sustainable ingredients and delicious dishes from his new cookbook Lure, including sea “weed” brownies made with kelp! This event is part of Dine-Out Vancouver Festival, 17 days of food events and special set menus at some of Vancouver’s top restaurants.

Enjoy a Bee-utiful Evening

Did you know that there is a beehive on top of the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel? You better bee-lieve it! Come celebrate bees and the people who keep them at Beekeepers Journey: An Evening of Art, Music, Storytelling and Discovery. The evening will feature talks about the difference bees make in the world, the unveiling of an audio-visual installation using the sounds of the hive, delicious honey cocktails and live music. Proceeds will go to support Hive for Humanity. If you can’t get enough of bees, then check out their beekeeping workshops which include a look inside the hives at the Fairmont. Sweet!

Watch Wrestlers Fly

Saturday, January 20

You haven’t lived until you’ve screamed “hit them with the chair!” at two people dressed in neon spandex, wrestling in a ring. Ballroom Brawl IX gives you the chance to cheer on the heroes and boo the baddies of ECCW Wrestling at the Commodore Ballroom. Expect dramatic entrances, amazing flips and, of course, creative prop use in this pro-wrestling extravaganza.
