Vancouver Folk Music Festival returns today through Sunday (July 17-19) for the 38th year of music, food, and artist workshops. Here are our can’t-miss picks.

If you like it loud, Scottish phenomenon Breabach’s fiery bagpipe concert is not to be missed. This energetic five-piece has been dubbed the “new faces of Scottish traditional music”. Saturday at 11:20 am, Stage 2

The Melbourne Ska Orchestra is fast becoming a fixture in Australia’s musical landscape. Assembled from the country’s preeminent names in ska and reggae, frontman Nicky Bomba and his bandmates produce contemporary ska-infused music that’s soaring in popularity. Friday at 10:05 pm, Main Stage

Angélique Kidjo has two Grammy Awards to back up her title as the “undisputed Queen of African Music.”  The Benin-born, New York-based artist’s latest album, Eve—a tribute to African women’s beauty and resilience—was voted Best World Music Album in 2014. Sunday at 9:25 pm, Main Stage

Workshops for music enthusiasts will take place at the various stages set up across the site. Saturday’s and Sunday’s are between 10am and 5pm.

Try The Kaboom Box’s Oyster Po’Boy, Mexi Pops’ handmade, organic fruit-and-yogurt ice pops, and Whales Tails Fry Bread, which offers the ultimate festival eating experience: crispy fried dough.

Conveniently located near the west gate of the festival grounds, the Folk Bazaar returns runs from 10am on Saturday and Sunday.
