The Ticket: Let Passions Fill Your Belly and Your Heart
This mouthwatering night in support of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation serves up a menu full of VanMag Restaurant Award winners—yum!
September 13, 2017
Is there anything better than stuffing your belly for a great cause? The Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation kicks off the fall gala season with Scotiabank Passions, its annual showcase of the city’s culinary excellence—all in support of providing compassionate care for those living with HIV/AIDS and other challenges.
This year’s menu includes some names that are particularly familiar around the VanMag offices as its chock-a-block with offerings from our 2017 Restaurant Award winners: Hawksworth (Best Upscale), Maenam (Best Thai), CinCin and Cioppino’s (Best Italian Gold and Silver winners, respectively). But make sure you leave room for dishes from the other mouthwatering restaurants on the roster, including Botanist, Forage, Joe Forte’s and Tojo’s. Then wash it all down with cocktails perfected by Bartender of the Year Sabrine Dhaliwal of Uva and toast to the 25th anniversary of the Dr. Peter Foundation, which supports some of the city’s most vulnerable people through the Dr. Peter Centre in the West End.
Dr. Peter Jepson-Young was a young physician who was diagnosed with AIDS in 1986 and dedicated his life to improving care for people living with the disease and educating the public until his death in 1992. Opened in 2003, the Dr. Peter Centre provides day, residential and end-of-life care for people living with HIV/AIDS and facing other challenges such as homelessness or mental illness.
