Development is nothing new in this town, but the plethora of architectural statement pieces slated for construction right now is going to redefine the urban landscape.

Parq Vancouver

Architect: IBI Group

The design: The giant “urban resort” houses a casino, eight restaurants, two luxury hotels and 60,000 square feet of meeting space—but from the outside, all we see is glittering copper siding.

Vancouver House

Architect: Bjarke Ingels Group
Expected completion: 2018

The design: The twisting glass residential tower rises out of a modern, angular green-roofed living complex. Ingels describes it as “gesamtkunstwerk”: a total work of art.

1550 Alberni

Architect: Kengo Kuma Architects and Associates
Expected completion: 2020

The design: A curving 43-storey glass-and-wood tower propped up by intersecting domes.
