The International Village theatre is prettttty good, but it’s hard to beat a movie screening en plein air—especially when it’s in one of the city’s most beautiful spots.

Chinatown Today and Vancouver Asian Film Festival are taking over Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Courtyard to do just that this Saturday, September 1, with a free screening of Mina Shum’s Meditation Park, which was filmed in Chinatown and East Van.

Pre-game at the accompanying culture fair with some dim sum, or play a few rounds of mahjong or ping pong at the Hot+Noisy social before slipping into the the courtyard at sundown and grabbing your seat for movie time. Popcorn with Asian-inspired flavouring (move over, butter) is up for grabs at the food stalls outside—because inside or outdoors, it’s not a movie without a snack.
