Fluevog Hosts Shoes & Music Open House
The 4th annual fundraiser for Saint James Music Academy marries shopping with a good cause.

Shopping for shoes so kids can play music? Sounds good to us.
Today (June 25), Fluevog Shoes in Gastown hosts the fourth annual Shoes & Music Open House. Fifty percent of all shoe sales will be donated to Saint James Music Academy, a free after-school music program for kids in the Downtown Eastside.
Kathy Walker, a long-time DTES resident, founded the academy in 2007 in response to funding cuts that limited access to music education for Vancouver’s inner-city kids. Eight years later, there are 180 children in the core after-school programs and another 250 in outreach programs. The school’s professional music educators lead an array of classical music programs, including summer camps and a music therapy program. And the care isn’t just of the musical variety—the kids are also fed a nutritious meal before their lessons, so they can play and feel their best.
Feel moved to help a kid tickle those ivories? You can donate at the event (no purchase required) or donate online. Refreshments will be served and a live soundtrack will be provided by SJMA students throughout the evening.
