Dancing on the Edge Takes the Floor
The annual dance festival returns for its 27th year.
July 2, 2015
Vancouver’s cultural calendar boasts plenty of dance performances and events year round. Dancing on the Edge, however, holds the distinction of being not only the longest-running dance festival in the city, but in the country. Launched in 1988 by Firehall Theatre Society in order to give local dance companies a much-needed supported performance space, this year’s 27th annual edition (starting tonight, July 2) once again brings together talent from across Canada for 10 days of multifaceted programming. Participating choreographers, dancers, and companies taking part this year include Paul-André Fortier (Montreal), MOVE: the company and Hong Kong Exile (Vancouver), Nathaniel Justiniano (San Francisco), and many others. Performances take place at Firehall Arts Centre, Scotiabank Dance Centre, and unconventional sites including Granville Island and Portside Park.
