This East Vancouver unit boasts concrete walls, 16 foot ceilings, and ocean views

July 4, 2016

The details: 406-2001 Wall St. | $599,900 | 958 sq. ft. | 1 bed, 2 bath

The Condo: A striking live/work loft with unobstructed water and mountain views in an up-and-coming East Vancouver neighbourhood. Sixteen foot ceilings with floor-to-ceiling windows and raw concrete walls provide a unique space to call home. The renovated open kitchen features a large wood block island, Bertazzoni gas range and a built-in dining room table. Engineered hardwood floors run throughout the main floor and two full bathrooms are a nice bonus when guests are over. The master bathroom has a contemporary soaker tub, walk-in shower and double vanity. An eye-catching spiral staircase with a glass railing adds architectural intrigue to the room. If you’re looking for something different with some cool factor, this may be it.

The Building: Cannery Row is a 68-unit live/work building built in 1999. There are a lot of different floor plans in the building and some very creative design ideas. Lots of unique spaces and cool neighbours live here. One underground parking stall is provided. Rentals and pets are allowed.

The Neighbourhood: The diverse neighbourhood straddles an edgier industrial area, with factories and workshops around the corner, and is a short stroll to the beautiful waterfront and parks along Wall Street. Your closest dining option is a McDonald’s, but JJ Bean is just across the street, so at least you can get a good cup of coffee. Hastings Street is just a few blocks away and offers a plethora of funky cafes, bakeries, grocery stores, and eclectic shopping. There are also 13 microbreweries within walking distance, so you can do a proper pub crawl right outside your door.

Potential Downsides: Some may find the sound of trains outside their window interesting—others, irritating. You will hear them. There is also no private outdoor space with this one, though there is some nice common outdoor space for the building.
