Condo of the Week: A Yaletown waterfront loft with a view
It has 16-ft. ceilings and is only steps away from the seawall
May 5, 2016
The details: 303-29 Smithe Mews | $869,000 | 936 sq. ft. | 1 bed, 1.5 bath
The condo: This waterfront loft, with its 16-ft. ceilings, is one of just 12 units in the exclusive Coopers Lookout building. It’s also just steps away from the seawall and offers great amenities. The unit itself features an open floor plan spread over 936 sq. ft. with the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom on the upper level. The main floor is highlighted with massive two-storey windows that let the natural light flood in for some real ‘wow’ factor. The open kitchen is great for entertaining. There’s two balconies, one on each level, and three parking stalls that you can either use for your car collection or rent out. It’s a unique find in this part of town.
The building: Coopers Lookout is a small six-storey loft building that is part of the much larger Cooper’s project built in 2009 by Concord Pacific. The complex’s amenities include a pool, hot tub, sauna, movie theatre, bowling alley (!), and games room. There are also kayaks available for use through the 24-hour concierge.
The neighbourhood: This waterfront location is an easy walk to Yaletown, Gastown, the stadiums, the SkyTrain, and pretty much anything else in the downtown core. Having the seawall at your doorstep is the biggest asset here, while dog owners will appreciate the off-leash dog park around the corner. The building does back onto the Plaza of Nations site that is cited for re-development, so you will have to deal with some construction in the near future.
The potential downsides: It’s big dollars for a one bedroom without much room to expand. You really have to value the ‘wow’ factor and the waterfront location for this one to make sense.
