Just as bourbon is to whiskey or Smoky the Bear is to Yogi Bear, mezcal is the smoky cousin of tequila. This Friday, five of Vancouver’s top bartenders (Alex Carruthers of Chambar Restaurant and Robyn Gray from Prohibition at The Rosewood Hotel to name a few) will compete at La Mezcaleria, making their own innovative cocktails using mezcal from Viejo Indecente Mezcal.

When: 7 p.m.

Wednesday, March 21

Can brewer’s yeast save the world? What is the role of a great top 40 playlist in promoting health? Get answers to these questions and more at Nerd Night. This month’s speakers include Carol Wiedemann, a musical therapist, Dr. Simon Donner a professor in Climatology, and Karissa Milbury, a researcher who believes that yeast, rather than dogs, are humankind’s best friend.

Have Some Quality Family (Feud) Time

Survey says…it’s time for a family show down! Put your competitive edge to good use at The Biltmore’s live version of the TV game show classic, Mack Gordon’s Family Feud. Contestants are chosen from the crowd and are encouraged to dress up as their family of their choice (the Adam’s family, utensils, the raccoon family that’s living in your attic…)

Get your fix of incredible CanCon this week at JUNOfest! Hosted by the CBC, this two day festival features over 95 Canadian bands accessible with just one wristband. Acts include Leif Vollebekk and Land of Talk who have both been nominated for Juno awards this year.

Discover the amazing world of zines and self-publishing in between the pages of the many books presented at Print Ready. Put on by the Dynamo Art Association, Print Ready is an exhibition of new works by local and international artists that features new publications by This Is What Collective, Neoglythic Media and many more.
