Write This Way

January 14

If you’ve ever watched a play and thought “Hey, I could do better than that,” now’s your chance. The Cultch is hosting a Pitch, Bitch or Ditch workshop as part of their Femme Series, a collection of workshops and productions that highlight female-identifying experiences. Theatre creators Pippa Mackie and Kim Senklip Harvey will critique anonymous audience ideas – so pitch that Shakespeare/Kardashian mashup and hope for the best.

When: Monday, January 14 8:00 p.m.
Where: Historic Theatre
Cost: $10

Luck Be a Party

January 14

Be the first to get the hot deets on Vancouver’s most random festival at the Fringe Lottery Party, where a few fortunate fringers will have their names drawn from a literal hat (and with that, entry into the fest). If watching people take pieces of paper out of a top hat isn’t exciting enough for you, there will also be live comedy, food and drinks. Have all the fries you want – so long as you keep your fingers crossed.

When: Monday, January 14 7:00 p.m.
Where: Backstage Lounge
Cost: Free

Rock and (Don’t) Roll

January 19

Fictional thrillers can’t hold a candle to real life – just ask Alex Honnold, a free soloist climber whose lifelong dream was to climb a certain 3,000 foot tall rockface with no rope. The story was captured by filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi in the documentary Free Solo, which you can catch at the Rio this Saturday. Don’t look down.

When: Saturday, January 19 12:30 p.m.
Where: Rio Theatre
Cost: From $10.50

Where: CRAFT Beer Market
