Laugh, drink, and brave a giant inflatable waterslide this week.
Try wine pairing with the pros at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Art’s Raw Beauty Winemakers Dinner. The star of this show is Luis Seabra, a Portuguese winemaker who focuses on process without much processing – he makes wine with as little intervention as possible. Try pairings like grilled pacific octopus with Xisto Cru (a white wine) and sundried tomato tortellini with Xisto Ilimitado (a red). There’s also dark chocolate mousse, which if you ask us, pairs well with anything.

Even if you don’t catch a lot of local improv (shame on you) you probably know the name Colin Mochrie, famed funnyman and star of Whose Line Is It Anyway. Maybe you also know that Mochrie got his start on the Vancouver TheatreSports stage (we get it, you’re good at trivia). Maybe you also know that he’s doing three shows in Vancouver this week, and that before his 90-minute set on Thursday you’ll probably be able to catch up with him at the stage bar (what, are you psychic or something?).

This weekend you can get your food and tunes fix at West Vancouver’s brand-new Bridge Festival. The multicultural celebration will boast bites from Come Arepa, Cazba Express, and Brazilian Roots Truck (our city’s first restaurant-on-wheels that focuses on indigenous influences on Brazilian cuisine). Festival nights wrap up with free evening concerts – on Friday you can shake what your mama gave ya at TANGA, a Latin style world fusion group.

Honour the 10th anniversary of Vancouver Craft Beer week the right way with a flight (then a pint, then a pitcher) of your favourite Vancouver brews. Catch the 100 breweries and cideries pouring pints at the PNE fairground or pop into participating restaurants for a local libation – The Mackenzie Room is celebrating with a 6 tap tasting paired with specific menu items like beef heart tartare and “chicken of the sea.” Cheers!
The 5k Foam Fest returns to Vancouver this weekend (translation: now is your chance to try out the world’s largest inflatable waterslide). The famed obstacle race has music, mud pits, and 2.5 million cubic feet of foam. It’s good, clean, dirty fun, and you can’t beat an athletic endeavour that encourages onesie-wearing.
