5 Cheery Events Happening in Vancouver This Week (Dec. 17-23)
If spiked bubble tea is wrong, we don’t want to be right.
December 17, 2018
Indulge your already unhealthy obsession with bubble tea at MIA’s Spiked Boba event. For one night only, this local hotspot will be serving up boozy adaptations of classic bubble tea flavours, like milk tea with rye whiskey and Baileys. Don’t forget to chew your drink.
December 18 & 19
Check out MigARTion, an art exhibition and reception in celebration of International Migrant’s Day. This two-day event includes workshops in music, theatre, dance and visual art, all led by professional artists. The final art exhibition will be made of work created by migrant workers with the guidance of the professionals.
Warm up your spirit and snap some insta-worthy photos at the Granville Island Lantern Festival. This fiery fest is in its 25th year of hosting various lantern-themed events across Granville Island. Make your own lantern, visit the Labyrinth of Light, and “ooh” and “ahh” your way through the Fire Finale – fire dancers included.
Get your festive funny bone tickled at Tyrant Studio’s Christmas Special, a comedy show featuring three Vancouver-based stand-up comedians. Keep an ear out for Yumi Nagashima, a Japanese jokester who has performed on CBC radio, Just For Laughs Northwest, and internationally. There’s nothing like a laugh to distract your impending December credit card bill.
December 23 & 24
Dive into the sea-dwelling septette of your dreams at Cibo Tratorria’s Feast of Seven Fishes. The seven-course menu features fresh seafood and local ingredients and includes scaley stars like slow-cooked octopus with tomato and chili and Petrale sole with spinach and winter mushrooms. Make sure to save room for chocolate fritters (don’t worry, those are fish-free).
