Cheers to National Absinthe Day

First, light a sugar cube on fire. Then, let melted ice water slowly drip from a beautiful fountain onto the sugar and into your glass. These steps are all part of the magic show that is drinking absinthe, the anise flavoured spirit first made famous in Switzerland. To mark National Absinthe Day (yes, it’s a thing) on March 5, Gotham Steakhouse & Bar will be serving absinthe and special cocktails so you can discover this delicious drink.

Listen to Stories Under the Stars

Wednesday, March 7

Like a legendary campfire, The Falme: True Stories From the Pale Blue Dot features tales told under the stars. Join storytellers such as Carmen Aguirre and Brad MacNeil as they recount touching and hilarious stories while surrounded by the Planetarium Star Theatre. Also featuring a bar and musical guest Sarah Wheeler.

When: 6 to 9 p.m.

Climb the Urban Grind

Every Tuesday in March

If you’d rather skip the mud of the mountains and end your hike with a beer, then the Urban Grind is for you! Run, walk or crawl up the many stairs to the top of the Vancouver Lookout in order to get your cardio and receive a free beer, a food coupon and a stunning view of Vancouver.

When: Every Tuesday in March, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Celebrate Women through Film

March 6 to March 11

The 2018 Vancouver International Women in Film Festival features films and discussions about the incredible contributions women have made and continue to make in film. On International Women’s day (March 8) they will be screening free short films about everyone from pioneers in Hollywood to Sudanese refugees in their strength and search for equality. The future of film is female!

Watch Harry Potter with the VSO

March 9 to 11

Expecto… a great night! Join the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for a magical experience as they screen Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire while performing every note of the score live. Come dressed in your finest robes and be whisked away to the world of JK Rowling while enjoying the fantastic acoustics of the Orpheum theatre.
